I went to go see a film called Patrick today, about a young nurse who begins working at a very remote clinic, where the doctor does odd and unethical experiments on his comatose patients. The nurse grows to like one patient named Patrick, but odd things begin happening to her and those around her- making her worry that Patrick has something to do with it. The film has Sharni Vinson in it, who was in You’re Next.

The film looked interesting, and started off alright, but to be honest it was no good. The start and ending have gore and suspense, but the majority of the film is very boring, slow, and rather stupid. It seemed rather juvenile actually. I don’t know how to rate it, but would suggest not seeing this movie ever… it’s not worth the time or money.

You’re Next is a horror movie that was released last year. It is a slasher film, which is my favourite type of horror. The film is 95 minutes long and stars Sharni Vinson, Joe Swanberg and AJ Bowen among others. None of the actors in the film were familiar to me, but that’s alright. You’re Next is about a family getting together for a 35th wedding anniversary where they come under attack. A gang of mysterious killers with animal masks start killing off the family one by one, but do not know that one of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.

Pros: The film is gory, which of course I love, but not overly so. There is a lot of suspense, as you don’t know who is going to be killed next. It is creepy because the killers are wearing masks, and there seems to be no reason why this family is under attack (you do eventually learn why though). There are many characters, so there is bound to be at least one character that you like. I think the actors all did a pretty good job as their characters, some being brave, others being weak and basically useless. Also, I really love that one of the victims not only fights back, but does it extremely well so you can root for them! The ways in which this character fights back does have some creativity which I also liked.

Cons: The film does not have any known actors, and it would have been nice to see someone I recognized. That’s just a personal con for me, I’m sure other people felt differently. A few characters are very useless in the film, so I couldn’t wait for them to die off unfortunately. Also, a few characters I was beginning to like were killed too soon, which was disappointing. While many horror films have the problem where the film is very dark, therefore hard to watch in a mildly lit room, I find this very annoying and You’re Next has this problem. Also, some of the characters talk very quietly so they can be hard to hear. Overall, there were no big cons to this film that I found. It did receive a lot of mixed reviews though.

Overall, I found the film enjoyable. I love slasher movies in general so I am always open to watching another, and You’re Next was a little different in some ways which was nice. I would rate You’re Next as 8 out of 10. I loved the character who fought back and I enjoyed the gore in the film. If you like slasher horror, I would recommend watching this one. It’s pretty good.
